Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing Kogi Central, has requested that her Senate probe proceedings be aired live for public viewing and transparency.
During the February 20 plenary session, the senator disrupted proceedings by refusing to accept her designated seat, challenging Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s directive, and repeatedly raising objections despite being overruled.
On Tuesday, the Senate referred Akpoti-Uduaghan’s case to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for disciplinary examination over her actions in the chamber.
In a statement posted on her X page on Thursday, the Kogi senator affirmed her willingness to appear before the panel but insisted the matter must not be handled privately.
Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that she had chosen to remain silent on the issue and other Senate affairs but had now made the decision to speak publicly.
“In as much as I have refrained from publicly speaking on matters and a lot of occurrences at the Senate under Senate President Akpabio, it’s about time I break my silence,” the statement reads.
“Arise TV set a date and I shall be in your studio in person. Spare no questions.
“And to Nigerians, please be sure to join the probe which I shall insist would be covered live.
“The next few days and weeks shall be interesting but will shape the standard and quality of Nigeria’s leadership.”
She also included a copy of a petition in her post, urging Nigerians to stay informed and closely monitor the proceedings as they unfold.
On Tuesday, Akpoti-Uduaghan filed a N100 billion defamation lawsuit against Senate President Akpabio.
The lawsuit, submitted at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, claims that Akpabio and Mfon Patrick, his legislative aide, made false and damaging remarks about her.
Akpoti-Uduaghan is seeking a court order directing the respondents to retract their alleged defamatory statements and issue a formal apology in a national newspaper.
