  • The minister suggested that airlines unwilling to comply could withdraw from Nigeria

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has warned foreign airlines that they could lose their summer flight schedules if they fail to engage local caterers for outboard meals.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting on ‘Transforming the Aviation Industry’ in Lagos on Friday, Keyamo criticised international carriers for bypassing Nigerian catering services.

“I will not approve the summer schedule for foreign airlines until they show me an agreement showing they have partnered with our local caterers,” he said.

The minister suggested that airlines unwilling to comply could withdraw from Nigeria, stating, “You can stop flying into Nigeria if you can’t patronise Nigeria’s local caterers, and our airlines such as Air Peace will take over the route.”

Keyamo also announced plans to upgrade Maiduguri Airport to international status, marking it as the first international airport in Nigeria’s North East.

The move comes as part of broader efforts to bolster local businesses and improve infrastructure in the country’s aviation sector.
