At least five passengers on Friday lost their lives in a fatal road accident along the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway in Abia State.

The tragic incident happened near Ohiya Mechanic Village in Ohiya, near the Abia Tower of Peace in Umuahia, the State capital.

The accident involved an 18-seater Toyota bus belonging to Ebonyi Transport Corporation which reportedly somersaulted multiple times leading to the death of the victims.

Many others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia for treatment, according to Daily Post.

The cause of the accident has been attributed to tiredness on the part of the bus driver who dozed off behind the wheel on the highway. .

Another account claimed that it may have been caused by a break failure.

But the officials of Abia State Emergency Service quickly arrived at the accident scene to rush the injured passengers to the FMC, while the bodies of the dead victims were also deposited at the FMC mortuary.
