  • Abiodun urged Amotekun operatives to collaborate with community leaders in gathering intelligence and reporting suspicious activities effectively.
  • The governor assured that his administration would continue to provide logistical and operational support to enhance the corps’ efficiency.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed his government’s dedication to ensuring the highest level of security for all residents in the state.

During an event in Abeokuta on Friday, where new operational vehicles and motorcycles were handed over to the Amotekun Corps, Abiodun, represented by Toyin Taiwo, cautioned officers against misconduct, extortion, and harassment.

He urged them to maintain professionalism, uphold integrity, and respect human rights, stressing that their uniforms represent public trust that must never be compromised.

“These operational vehicles symbolise our unwavering dedication to a safer Ogun State. However, beyond the tools and equipment, the effectiveness of our security operatives lies in discipline, professionalism, and intelligence.”

“I, therefore, charge Amotekun operatives to conduct themselves with the highest level of integrity, respect for human rights, and commitment to duty. The officers must continue to uphold the values of diligence, fairness, and responsibility. Your uniform is a symbol of trust, so do not betray the confidence the public has in you.”

“As you know, we have zero tolerance for abuse, so you are not expected to misuse your uniform while discharging your duties. The uniform confers trust that must never be betrayed. Security is not about oppression; neither is it an opportunity to extort, harass, or abuse the powers given to you as an Amotekun operative,” he said.

Abiodun highlighted that the corps’ effectiveness depends on intelligence gathering and encouraged officers to work closely with community leaders to report any suspicious activity.

He commended the Amotekun Corps for supporting other security agencies through intelligence gathering, community policing, and rapid response initiatives.

He also advised them to maintain the newly provided vehicles properly, assuring them that the government remains committed to boosting their efficiency in tackling crime.

Commander of Ogun Amotekun Corps, Brig. Gen. Alade Adedigba (retd.), appreciated Abiodun for fulfilling his pledge to enhance the corps’ operations.

He mentioned that since assuming office in August last year, the administration approved recruiting 700 officers, with an additional 1,000 currently undergoing the recruitment process.

Adedigba further stated that the new vehicles and motorcycles were an addition to those provided by the governor in the previous year.

He reassured residents that the corps would intensify efforts to guarantee their safety and ensure they could sleep peacefully without fear.
