  • The speculation gained traction after the governor, alongside Nigeria’s music sensation, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, who is his nephew, visited President Bola Tinubu at his Bourdillon home last month

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared the air regarding the growing rumour of an imminent defection of Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, to the party.

Reports have emerged in the media in recent times claiming Adeleke, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is mulling an exit from the party to the APC amid a recent gale of defection of PDP stalwarts and governors to the APC.

The speculation gained traction after the governor, alongside Nigeria’s music sensation, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, who is his nephew, visited President Bola Tinubu at his Bourdillon home last month.

But reacting to the growing rumour, the national secretary of the APC, Ajibola Basiru, said the governor won’t be joining his party.

He made this known on Wednesday while addressing newsmen at a media interaction organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone B – a body representing journalists from the South-West.

When asked about the speculations that Adeleke, a PDP stalwart, is considering jumping ship to the APC. He didn’t mince words in his response.

“Adeleke is not joining our party. I know that as of today, decamping is not on board. Although APC is a beautiful bride for anybody that wants to join, I must say here that as a party man and an established politician, I would say that I am one of the people that is extremely loyal to Mr President,” Basiru affirmed

He also stated that the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje as the chairman does not indicate a crisis or possible fallout within the party ranks, noting that under the chairmanship of the former Kano State governor, the party experienced immense growth.
