  • INEC said it has now received a total of 129 applications for political party registration nationwide.
  • The registration portal will be hosted within INEC’s Party Financial Reporting and Auditing System (PFRAS) platform.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has received seven additional applications from associations seeking to be registered as political parties.

The national commissioner and chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Sam Olumekun, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja.

He said the commission would soon launch a political party registration portal to make the process more efficient.

“At its regular weekly meeting held today, Thursday 10th July 2025, the Commission received further update on additional requests from associations seeking registration as political parties,” he said.

“Since last week, seven more applications have been received, bringing the total number so far to 129. All the requests are being processed.”

He explained that the commission would no longer rely on the manual method used in previous registrations.

“Unlike the manual method used in previous registration, the Commission is introducing a political party registration portal which is a module in our Party Financial Reporting and Auditing System PFRAS,” Olumekun stated.

“This will make the process faster and seamless. In the next one week, the Commission will conclude the final testing of the portal before deployment.”

He added that guidelines for submitting applications through the portal would be released soon.

“Thereafter, the next step for associations that meet the requirements to proceed to the application stage will be announced. The Commission will also issue guidelines to facilitate the filing of applications using the PFRAS,” he said.

He added that the names of the new associations had been made available to the public.

“Meanwhile, the list of the new associations has been uploaded to our website and other platforms for public information,” he said.
