I’ll never work for Atiku again, I’m loyal to Buhari – Garba Shehu

  • This is even as he stated that he won’t go back to working for former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, saying it is not possible to serve two masters simultaneously.

Former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Garba Shehu, says his loyalty and allegiance are with his former boss, and he is not betraying the trust the former president reposes in him.

This is even as he stated that he won’t go back to working for former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, saying it is not possible to serve two masters simultaneously.

Before his appointment by Buhari in 2015, Garba worked as media aide to Atiku for years.

Speaking during an interview with TVC News programme: Beyond The Headlines, on Thursday, Garba said he had chosen to remain the spokesman of Buhari even though he left office because he remains committed to him and feels he needs his support.

The former presidential spokesman said: “Let me tell you, if you have integrity and I’m not pretending that I have, people should judge for themselves.

“I think a man should serve only one master at a time. You can’t serve two masters at the same time, otherwise, you are deceiving yourself or them.

“I’m currently with Muhammadu Buhari, however, if you are looking to make an example of me with some of the characters you just mentioned, I’m not in that mode.

“When I speak for Buhari these days, I do so out of commitment to a leader who gave me his absolute trust, and I feel that he needs my support; otherwise, I would have done like others did, walk away and start something else.

“But I’m happy that I’m still on his side and he is not as active politically as you had before, certainly not as president.

“Even the statements we make on his behalf, you can see that they are very occasional and specific, as we don’t want to meddle in issues; otherwise, people will think that there are two presidents in a country.

“The only president at the moment is President Bola Tinubu and Buhari will not contest the space with him.”
