- Amid deepening strain on the state finances, Mohammed underscored the need to reduce the cost of governance, cautioning cabinet members to refrain from inconsequential travels to Abuja or foreign countries
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has voiced his displeasure at what he said is the federal government’s palpable discrimination against states led by opposition parties when it comes to monetary assistance.
He disclosed that the opposition-led states, including his, have been repeatedly bypassed and sidelined by the federal government in the disbursement of financial interventions and grants.
Mohammed made the disclosure at the opening of the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Bauchi.
While maintaining that the Federal Government is biased towards some states and gives others preferential treatment, he called for a fair, equitable and impartial approach to the distribution of interventions.
The governor said, “The Federal Government has a lot of bias against states governed by opposition parties. Some states are receiving preferential treatment.”
He warned that states should not be punished or rewarded based on their political leaning.
Amid deepening strain on the state finances, Mohammed underscored the need to reduce the cost of governance, cautioning cabinet members to refrain from inconsequential travels to Abuja or foreign countries.
“We must prudently manage our scarce resources. The financial pressure is high and we can’t afford wasteful spending,” he said.
He also enjoined them to focus on governance and eschew politicking saying, “It is not yet time for politicking. Let us focus on service delivery. Anyone eager to begin political campaigns should resign.”
Governor Bala Mohammed reaffirmed his commitment to delivering impactful governance till the end of his tenure
