I’m surprised Peter Obi is part of coalition, he shouldn’t be there – Bode George

• He also said people are free to join any party they want but the ultimate power to decide the winner of an election resides with the electorate

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bode George, says many top politicians who are members of the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC) are not interested in common good but personal agenda.

This is even as he expressed surprise that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 general election, is part of the coalition.

Obi is one of the top political leaders in the newly formed coalition movement whose aim is to oust President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News, the former military governor of Ondo State implored those who have left the main opposition party to return to the party to enhance their chances of beating Tinubu in the coming election.

He also said people are free to join any party they want, but the ultimate power to decide the winner of an election resides with the electorate and he has no doubt that the PDP has what it takes to win the presidential election.

“We were in crisis for quite awhile because of the issue of who will sign to INEC but we’ve been able to resolve that…you see the situation in Nigeria now, those who are jumping ship I wish them the best of luck, but people that matter are the electorate.

“The voice of the people is the voice of God. I have no qualms in my mind about PDP not being able to do it.

“Those people who are there [in the ADC], they benefited from this party. Do you disown your father’s house? What are you looking for if not for personal reasons? Self-centredness, selfishness… And when I saw Obi there, I was wondering what he was doing there.

“Which of them had not been part of PDP? I wish them well but I’m advising them, come back let’s work together. You want to kick Bola out in 2027 and you want to divide the house.”

Other members of the coalition include former Senate President, David Mark, former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and so many others.
