The tricky winger and mesmerising left-footed forward died on Monday morning, according to his family.
His demise comes a few days after the death of ex-Super Eagles captain and goalkeeper, Peter Rufai.
Fondly known as ‘Babaoo’ by fans and associates, Waobikeze was renowned for his strong left foot and fascinating ball control.
Though he played a few games for the Super Eagles due to strong competition in the squad, he left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s domestic football, featuring for Sharks FC of Port Harcourt, BCC Lions of Gboko, and Iwuanyanwu Nationale (now Heartland FC).
His passing was confirmed on Monday by his brother, Eli Waobikeze, in a statement shared on his Facebook account.
“On behalf of the Waobikeze family, I would like to announce the peaceful passing to eternal glory of my brother Allen Okwuchukwu Waobikeze. He transitioned at about 7:34 pm CST.
“We appreciate everyone who prayed, called, and visited my brother Okwuchukwu Waobikeze. Every funeral arrangement will be posted.
“Please keep our family in your prayers at this time as we plan to send forth our beloved brother. God bless you all,” he wrote
