- Akume heads the 17-member committee that includes other ministers, the National Security Adviser and the Inspector General of Police.
President Bola Tinubu has approved the formation of an inter-ministerial committee to oversee the state burial of former president Muhammadu Buhari.
Recall that Buhari, aged 82, died on Sunday in London.
The secretary to the government of the federation, senator George Akume, will lead the committee.
Members of the committee include the minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, minister of budget and economic planning, minister of defence, and minister of information and national orientation.
Also listed are the minister of interior, minister of the FCT, minister of housing and urban development, and minister of state for health and social welfare.
Others are the minister of art, culture and creative economy, the national security adviser, and the special adviser to the president on policy and coordination.
The president also included the senior special assistant to the president on political and other matters, inspector general of police, director-general of DSS, and the chief of defence staff.
The permanent secretary, general services office, will act as the secretariat of the committee.
In addition, President Tinubu has directed all ministries, departments and agencies to open condolence registers at their entrances.
“This is to allow the public pay their last respects to the late elder statesman,” the presidency said in a statement.
The president also ordered the opening of a central condolence register at the ministry of foreign affairs and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.
“These arrangements are part of efforts to honour the legacy of former president Muhammadu Buhari,” said the director of information and public relations, Segun Imohiosen.
