He died on Sunday at a clinic in the United Kingdom at the age of 82.
His body is expected to be buried later today in Daura, Katsina, according to Islamic rites.
A nine-member committee, inaugurated by president, Bola Tinubu, to coordinate the funeral received the body at the airport.
The committee includes top government functionaries, military representatives and religious leaders.
The first lady, Oluremi Tinubu, was also at the airport, dressed in black as she joined dignitaries to welcome the late leader.
