  • He testified that the former president, who died in a very expensive private clinic in the United Kingdom on Sunday, lived a simple, frugal and spartan lifestyle till the very end

Special Adviser to former President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has said his late principal did not corruptly enrich himself despite occupying the highest office for eight years.

He testified that the former president, who died in a very expensive private clinic in the United Kingdom on Sunday, lived a simple, frugal and spartan lifestyle till the very end.

Speaking on Tuesday when he appeared on Channels Television, Adesina said Buhari’s friend took care of his medical bills

On Buhari’s purported ownership of homes in the UK, Adesina said Buhari had no private residence or permanent property in the United Kingdom despite his frequent trips to the country for medical treatment.

The ex-presidential spokesman disclosed that the former President mostly stayed at the Nigerian High Commission during his medical trips.

“There was a time he was in the High Commission for many months when he went on that eight-month medical vacation,” Adesina said.

According to him, Buhari had been consistent with his medical team in London even before becoming President, which explained his preference for treatment in the UK.

Speaking on the cost of the medical care and other personal expenses, Adesina disclosed that Buhari largely depended on the benevolence and thoughtfulness of wealthy friends.
