- Radda said Buhari described Tinubu as a courageous man for taking the tough decision to remove the fuel subsidy.
Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has revealed the reaction of former President Muhammadu Buhari to the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu.
Buhari died on Sunday at a London clinic at the age of 82 and was buried on Tuesday at his Daura residence with full military honours.
Radda said Buhari described Tinubu as a courageous man for taking the tough decision to remove the fuel subsidy.
He said Buhari narrated to him how he was unable to remove the subsidy on petrol when he was president because he was advised against it whenever he wanted to, adding that if Tinubu had waited till he settled in as president and consulted with people on the controversial issue, he would not have been able to do away with the subsidy.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of Buhari’s burial in Daura, the governor said: “Let me use his words: ‘I pity Bola (President Tinubu) for what he is doing. He is a brave man for removing the fuel subsidy.
“When I was president, whenever I made an attempt to remove the subsidy, a lot of people would give me too many reasons not to do so.
“But Bola did it immediately. If he had consulted people, he could not have removed the fuel subsidy now’.”
The governor also noted that the former President’s death has created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill.
