- He stated that while Atiku should lead the drive to midwife an alternative to the APC, he must also mentor and hand over the baton to young people who will bring new ideas and fresh perspectives to the polity.
Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Special Adviser on political matters to President Bola Tinubu, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to ditch his aspiration of becoming president.
Baba-Ahmed said age is no longer on Atiku’s side, hence he needs to quit aspiring to rule the country and start playing a fatherly and statesmanly role to younger generations.
Speaking on Wednesday, when he appeared as a guest on ‘Focus Nigeria’, a programme on African Independent Television, AIT, Baba-Ahmed implored Atiku to start grooming a younger person for the presidency.
He stated that while Atiku should lead the drive to midwife an alternative to the APC, he must also mentor and hand over the baton to young people who will bring new ideas and fresh perspectives to the polity.
“He is a very prominent member of the PDP, a founding member of the PDP. Vice President for eight years. He competed three times, contested three times. He is a highly respected person.
“I think he should be a hero of democracy, but I didn’t think he should aspire to even lead this country. I think he should be a father figure.
“He should be involved in the building of an alternative to APC, but he should bring in new blood, new perspectives, new people, and say the future belongs to you. We will stand behind you,” Baba-Ahmed said
