Veteran journalist, Chief Dele Momodu, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Momodu’s resignation was contained in a letter dated July 17, 2025 and addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State

The former PDP presidential aspirant said his resignation takes immediate effect, stating that the party has been infiltrated and usurped by anti-democratic forces.

While stating that his “reason is clear and direct,” he noted that the right thing to do is to leave the party for the usurpers.

He added that, “Our party has undeniably been seized by antidemocratic elements, both from within and without, in broad daylight.

“It is therefore honourable to relinquish the remains of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly align with the new coalition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”

The publisher of Ovation International expressed gratitude to the ward-level party leadership for their unwavering support throughout the years.

His defection to the ADC marks an enormous shift in Edo State’s political landscape and contributes momentum to the ongoing realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Momodu had joined the PDP in 2021 and actively engaged in national debates and party affairs.

His departure follows a series of resignations by notable figures displeased by the perennial internal wrangling and infighting.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar resigned from the party yesterday and also joined the ADC.
