We’re not part of coalition, Peter Obi’s stance isn’t party’s position – Labour Party

The Usman Nenani-led faction of the Labour Party, LP, says it is not part of the opposition coalition cobbled together ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party disassociated itself from the coalition-adopted African Democratic Congress, adding that LP has its internal mechanism and structure and has not joined any such alliance.

The party’s position on the coalition was made known by factional Interim National Secretary of the party, Darlington Nwokocha, who spoke on Friday, when he appeared as a guest on Channels Television ‘Politics Today’.

The coalition seeks to oust the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 general elections.

Its members include opposition figures such as Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and others under the ADC.

Speaking on Peter Obi’s déclaration if support for the coalition and his participation in its activities, Nwokocha said Obi’s public posturing is not a reflection of the party’s position on the coalition.

He noted that while the former Anambra governor remains respected for being the party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, his engagements do not equate to the party joining any alliance.

“Well, I don’t know about that, and I don’t know if we are in the ring; they’ve not told me that.

“When you talk about coalition – already Labour Party has the machinery of internal coalition. The Labour Party is getting extremely stronger,” he said.
