  • Tinubu said the traditional ruler was instrumental to his triumph at the last General election.

President Bola Tinubu has said the history of the Yoruba race would have taken a major blow and suffered a setback if he hadn’t won the 2023 presidential election.

The President made this known on Sunday, the 8th day of Fidau prayers for the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.

Tinubu said the traditional ruler was instrumental to his triumph at the last General election.

He disclosed that the late monarch had blessed him and urged him to run for the 2023 presidential election, assuring him of victory.

He added that his eventual victory at the polls completed Yoruba history.

He added, “Our history would not have been completed carefully and richly if I had failed in the last election.

“I was successful because of your support and the blessing of the late Awujale.”

Adetona, a longtime friend of former President Muhammadu Buhari, died on Sunday at 91.

The monarch passed away just hours after the death of former President Buhari was announced.

Adetona was one of the longest-serving monarchs, having been on the throne for 64 years. He ascended the throne on April 2, 1960. His friendship with the former Nigerian president and Head of State dated back to the 1980s.
