- Natasha’s tirade followed the blocking of her entry into the Senate after her return to the red chamber to resume her legislative duties
Suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on Tuesday, lampooned President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, over how he is running the upper legislative chamber.
The troubled senator described Akpabio as the worst Senate president in the history of the country.
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s tirade followed the blocking of her entry into the Senate after her return to the red chamber to resume her legislative duties.
Recall that a Federal High Court ruling on July 4, 2025, declared her six-month suspension from the Senate unconstitutional and excessive.
The court’s ruling ordered her reinstatement, a judgment the Senator had formally communicated to the Senate through two distinct letters, indicating her intention to resume on Tuesday, July 22.
But the embattled lawmaker’s attempt to resume plenary was forestalled after she was denied access to the chamber, sparking a new legal imbroglio and constitutional standoff at the National Assembly.
Speaking to newsmen after she was denied access to the chamber, Akpoti-Uduaghan said the current National Assembly is the worst the country has had.
She stated that Akpabio runs the Senate like it’s his third term as Akwa Ibom Governor, adding that even the governors are scared of speaking out and people are not allowed to freely air their views if what they have to say does not align with their interest.
She said: “That outburst I had on the floor was just a combination of so many wrongs that Akpabio has meted out against me.
“And I will say this, that it’s a shame that we have had some many good Senate Presidents like Chuba Okadigbo of blessed memory, we’ve had David Mark, Bukola Saraki, and we’ve even had Ahmed Lawan who is currently a senator.
“This is much the worst Assembly Nigeria has ever had and I hope we will not have to suffer this anymore because it tells a lot on the individual.
“I have said this before and I’m saying it again, Senate President Godswill Akpabio runs the Nigerian Senate as if it’s a third term governor of Akwa Ibom.
“Many governors are afraid, you have all seen what’s happening, you are not allowed to speak, when you try to speak or air your views on certain issues that are critical, you get shut down if it does not conform to what he wants.”
