  • The Senate dismissed her ruling claim, saying it is the prerogative of the red chamber to punish erring members as it sees fit.

Suspended Kogi Central senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has arrived at the National Assembly complex to resume her legislative duties at the Senate.

The lawmaker’s supporters had converged at the entrance of the National Assembly complex waiting for her arrival.

It would be recalled that the lawmaker on Saturday vowed that she would resume sitting on Tuesday, July 22.

The senator cited a recent judgment of the federal High Court in Abuja to justify her position.

The presiding judge, Justice Binta Nyako, had ordered the Senate to recall her, ruling that the six-month suspension handed to her was excessive.

However, the Senate dismissed her ruling claim, saying it is the prerogative of the red chamber to punish erring members as it sees fit.

In a statement on Sunday, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, dismissed the ruling cited by the lawmaker, saying the court cannot dictate to the Senate on how to run its affairs.

However, a viral video online showed a heightened security presence at the national assembly, ostensibly to stop her from returning to the red chamber and also prevent the breakdown of law and order.
