  • This is even as said there is no rift between between him and Obi, adding that no one can break them up.

The 2023 vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has said he and the presidential candidate of the party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, are not leaving the party.

This is even as said there is no rift between between him and Obi, adding that no one can break them up.

Baba-Ahmed spike at the National Executive Council meeting of the Julius Abure faction of the party on Monday.

LP has been enmeshed in a leadership crisis for over a year now with the party now split into two factions, one led by Abure and the other led by interim Chairman, Nenadi Usman.

Many members of the party, especially the bigwigs, have stated that Julius Abure’s tenure as the chairman of the party has expired, and even the court had asked him to stop parading himself as the national chairman of the party.

The likes of Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Peter Obi, Datti himself, and the elected lawmakers under the LP have always identified with the Usman-led faction.

Speaking at the Abure-led faction NEC meeting in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed said he was present at the meeting to find a solution to the crisis rocking the party.

Baba-Ahmed, while addressing reporters, made it clear that Peter Obi is still a member of the party, adding that coalition is not a party.

“I have attended and I have listened to the coalition attempts. Yes, I still remain in the Labour Party,” he said.

“To the best of our knowledge, H.E. Peter Obi, my boss, is still a member of the Labour Party. He, just like I, attended the coalition talks; but coalition is not a political party. He has not become a member of ADC.

“There is no crack between Obi and myself. In fact, it’s impossible for there to be any crack between us.

“It is easier to break the head of APC than for a crack to exist between me and my boss, Peter Obi.”
