- Baba-Ahmed also revealed that he spoke with Obi before attending the Julius Abure-led LP National Executive Council, NEC, meeting.
Peter Obi’s running mate during the 2023 presidential election, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has said he won’t be sad or upset if he is dropped as the vice presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Tuesday, Baba-Ahmed insinuated that Obi may no longer have his heart in the Labour Party, but he is always welcome to return to the party.
He, however, made it clear he is yet to see a reason to join the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
“My own thinking is that you should convince me why I should go to ADC. Where was ADC in 2023 when the Labour Party got 10 million votes? I’m yet to be convinced to leave LP.
“Labour Party’s arms are open to welcome back Peter Obi. I would like Peter Obi to win the nomination of the Labour Party and contest in 2027, with or without me,” he said
Baba-Ahmed also revealed that he spoke with Obi before attending the Julius Abure-led LP National Executive Council, NEC, meeting.
He added that Obi is a busy man and he has a lot on his plate.
He said, “If His Excellency Peter Obi and I had been sworn in, there would have been things that would have fallen on me to do.
“Not too long ago, his younger brother’s property was smashed. He has been busy. He went to Daura for Buhari’s burial. Also, one governor was on his case not to visit his state.
“I need to understand that Peter Obi’s cup is full. And maybe he is shy to tell me to go and do these things. He knows everything I do. I carry him along.
“Peter Obi is a very easy person. He leaves you to use your judgment and initiative. He was fully in the picture.”
The LP has been embroiled in an internal crisis, with the party now split into two factions, one led by Abure and the other by interim chairman, Nenadi Usman.
Most members of the party are of the view that Abure’s tenure as chairman has expired, and even the court has directed him to stop parading himself as the national chairman of the party
