  • His initial involvement in the criminal proceedings continues to raise questions and cast doubt over his integrity, morality and fitness for public office.

The Kano State government has moved to probe the state’s Commissioner for Transport, Ibrahim Namadi, following his involvement in the trial of suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Dan Wawu.

Namadi stood surety for Wawu to meet his bail condition, a development that spurred public outrage after official documents detailing his role in the release of the suspected drug trafficker were made public.

Dan Wawu was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) before a Federal High Court sitting in Kano on charges of drug peddling and related offences. Although the Commissioner has since withdrawn his suretyship, his initial involvement in the criminal proceedings continues to raise questions and cast doubt over his integrity, morality and fitness for public office.

Following the public uproar that greeted the disclosure of his involvement in the Wawu trial,
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter.

The governor’s order is contained in a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa.

Dawakin-Tofa also said the government has set up a seven-member panel to probe the matter.

The panel, chaired by Barrister Aminu Hussain, who is also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Justice and Constitutional Matters, is tasked with uncovering the circumstances surrounding the case and recommending appropriate action.

Other members of the panel include Barr. Hamza Haladu; Barr. Hamza Nuhu Dantani; Abdullahi Mahmoud Umar; Major General Sani Muhammad (Rtd); Comrade Kabiru Said Dakata; and Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota, who will serve as Secretary.

Yusuf expressed deep concern over the allegations, reiterating his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on drug abuse and other social vices.

He assured the public that the matter would be treated with urgency and transparency
