- 266 road construction projects are ongoing in the north, with hundreds more in the maintenance stage, according to the transport minister.
- Several highways including Calabar–Abuja and Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe are among FG’s legacy projects currently under construction.
The minister of transportation, Saidu Alkali, has said that the federal government has completed 135 road projects across northern Nigeria.
Alkali made the disclosure during a two-day interactive session hosted by the Ahmadu Bello Foundation on Wednesday.
This was contained in a statement issued by Suleiman Haruna, director of public relations at the ministry of information and national orientation.
The minister revealed that an additional 266 road construction projects are currently ongoing across the northern region.
He also stated that 312 road maintenance projects have already been completed in various parts of the north.
Alkali added that several major infrastructure works were in progress across Nigeria under the current administration’s development strategy.
He mentioned legacy projects such as the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, and the Calabar–Abuja Superhighway.
Others listed include the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe Road, which cuts across multiple states in the north.
He said the greater Abuja water supply network project has also been completed and commissioned.
The minister listed additional completed works to include the rehabilitation of numerous primary and secondary schools across different states.
According to him, three world-class bus terminals have been constructed and inaugurated under the current administration.
He noted that in the federal capital territory (FCT), 14 road projects had been completed and inaugurated.
Alkali added that several other construction, rehabilitation, and expansion works were ongoing across the country.
He said the infrastructure drive aligns with the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda and national development strategy.
