Nigeria’s national women’s football team, the Super Falcons, brought the city of Lagos to a standstill as they paraded their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) trophy through major streets, drawing wild cheers and street celebrations from fans and well-wishers.

Fresh from their continental triumph, the Falcons were met with overwhelming excitement as proud Nigerians danced, waved flags, and sang in celebration of the team’s hard-earned victory.

The atmosphere was electric as the players, dressed in celebratory gear, smiled and waved from atop an open bus while holding their coveted trophy high.

The victory tour, which kicked off in central Lagos, drew crowds from all walks of life. From market women abandoning their stalls to students racing to catch a glimpse of their heroes, the Falcons’ presence reignited national pride. For many, it was more than a trophy tour — it was a moment of unity and celebration for the entire country.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) coordinated the open-bus parade to honor the team’s outstanding performance at the 2024 WAFCON tournament, where the Super Falcons clinched their record-extending 10th title.

Their performance throughout the tournament, especially their final match victory over host country Morocco, earned them praise not just for their skill and teamwork, but for their resilience and determination.

Traffic briefly halted in parts of Lagos Island, Ikeja, and Surulere as fans lined the roads to cheer the champions.

Sports enthusiasts and public officials alike praised the celebration as a deserved tribute to a team that continues to set the pace for women’s football in Africa. Lagos State officials also pledged continued support for the development of women’s sports, promising further investment in grassroots talent.

As the trophy glistened in the Lagos sun, it symbolized more than victory — it was a shining reminder of the power of women in sports and the spirit of a nation united in pride.
