  • He asserted that Nigerians are grappling with renewed agony under the Tinubu-led administration instead of the “Renewed Hope” that was promised during the 2023 electioneering.

Former Osun State governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has bemoaned the parlous and troubling state of the nation under President Bola Tinubu, saying the management of the nation’s affairs leaves so much to be desired.

He asserted that Nigerians are grappling with renewed agony under the Tinubu-led administration instead of the “Renewed Hope” that was promised during the 2023 electioneering.

Oyinlola made the assertion on Tuesday when he appeared on Frontline, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese Ijebu.

Oyinlola, who was a retired Nigerian Army General and was governor of Osun State from May 29, 2003, to November 26, 2010, accused the government of failing to deliver on its promises.

“When he was campaigning, he promised a Renewed Hope. What we are seeing now is nothing short of bad governance. The economy is in terrible shape, and it’s affecting every Nigerian,” he said.

Oyinlola also weighed in on the endorsement of the re-election of President Tinubu in 2027 by Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Oyinlola, while admitting and not distancing himself from the endorsement, said it was a strategic political move and not a declaration of ideological alignment or trust.

He highlighted the widespread poverty, insecurity, and the deteriorating quality of life as evidence that the administration has not only fallen short but has worsened conditions for ordinary citizens.

“We have a very bad economy, bad security, and hard-biting poverty. The common man cannot afford basic medication. We are also plagued by religious tension, war, banditry, terrorism, and insurgency. What we have is renewed agony not renewed hope,” he declared
