  • The extension allows Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms aimed at modernising customs and boosting operational efficiency across the service.
  • Customs is expected to implement the National Single Window project designed to simplify cross‑border trade processes and enhance transparency.

President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenure of the comptroller‑general of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, by one year.

Adeniyi’s tenure was originally scheduled to lapse on August 31, 2025.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

According to Onanuga, the extension will enable Adeniyi to consolidate reforms currently being undertaken in the service.

He noted that the priorities include the modernisation of customs operations, the full implementation of the National Single Window project, and Nigeria’s responsibilities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Tinubu, while acknowledging Adeniyi’s role, praised him for his “steadfast leadership and commitment to service.”

The President expressed confidence that Adeniyi’s extended tenure would enhance customs’ capacity in trade facilitation, border security and revenue mobilisation.
