- Bala, who was the party’s Deputy National Chairman before his resignation in May 2025,
claimed that the party’s constitution empowers him to assume the role of interim national chairman.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed the emergence of a new national chairman in the party.
Hon. Nafi’u Bala had declared himself as the party’s national chairman and discredited the leadership of the party under the interim national chairman, David Mark.
Bala, who was the party’s Deputy National Chairman before his resignation in May 2025, claimed that the party’s constitution empowers him to assume the role of interim national chairman.
He declared himself the new chairman during a press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday night.
At the event, Bala accused the David Mark-led leadership of illegally taking over the party, saying it was done “in defiance of the ADC constitution” and amounted to political hooliganism.
But the party has strongly rejected Bala’s claims.
In response, the National Publicity Secretary of ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the party does not recognise Bala’s declaration and reminded the public that Bala had already resigned from his position.
To support this, the party produced a copy of Bala’s resignation letter dated May 17, 2025. In the letter, Bala wrote: “I, Nafiu Bala, do hereby write to notify you of my resignation as a member of the National Working Committee of our great party, African Democratic Congress, with effect from 26 May, 2025.”
He added, “My resignation is to make way for a smooth and effective coalition and restructuring. My resignation does not in any way mean that I am abandoning the party, so I would be ready to serve in any other capacity I may be called upon in the future.”
ADC said Bala’s resignation letter clearly showed that he was no longer a member of the party’s leadership and, therefore, could not declare himself chairman
