  • The decision is aimed at enhancing the coordination of geospatial data management and providing more direct oversight of national mapping and land administration priorities.

The Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGoF) will be moved away from the Ministry of Works to the Presidency, the federal government has announced.

The relocation of the office followed the order of President Bola Tinubu announced during Thursday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting which he presided over.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who made the announcement, said the decision is aimed at enhancing the coordination of geospatial data management and providing more direct oversight of national mapping and land administration priorities.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN),
While the minister did not offer specific reasons for the reassignment, the move is in line with the administration’s reform agenda and its increasing dependence on geospatial intelligence for planning, infrastructure development, and security mapping.
