  • The council confirmed withholding 192,089 results over alleged malpractice, including mobile phone use and candidate collusion.
  • A fake notice directed principals to report to WAEC’s Lagos office with scripts, a move WAEC described as baseless.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has debunked a viral list which claimed that results of some schools had been cancelled.

The council described the document as fake, urging the public to disregard it.

Amos Josiah Dangut, head of WAEC Nigeria office, announced the release of the 2025 WASSCE results on Monday.

Dangut said results of 192,089 candidates were withheld over alleged involvement in examination malpractice.

He listed offences such as use of banned mobile phones in exam halls and collusion among candidates.

Shortly after the announcement, a list surfaced online alleging that WAEC had cancelled results of over 100 schools nationwide.

The forged document, dated August 4, directed principals of the affected schools to report to WAEC’s Lagos zonal office.

It also requested that candidates’ scripts and supporting documents be submitted within 10 working days.

Reacting on Tuesday, WAEC posted a statement via its official X handle disowning the list.

“Kindly ignore any message listing schools whose results were supposedly cancelled,” the council said.

WAEC said it does not require examination centres to submit candidates’ answer scripts to its offices.

“WAEC will never ask any centre to bring scripts of candidates to the office. Where would they get them from?” it asked.

The council urged the public to depend only on information released through its verified social media platforms and accredited media outlets.
