  • Namadi’s resignation, which came hours after the committee submitted its report, was confirmed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa

The Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Alhaji Ibrahim Ali Namadi, has stepped down from his position after his indictment in the bailing of a suspected drug dealer.

Recall the Namadi finds himself in the eye of the storm after he became embroiled in a controversy for standing surety to secure the bail of the drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.

Following the disclosure of his involvement in the bailing of Danwawu, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf set up a committee to probe the issue.

Namadi’s resignation, which came hours after the committee submitted its report, was confirmed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

In a statement issued by Dawakin Tafa on Wednesday, the Commissioner said he stepped down in the interest of the public and the values of the administration.

“As a member of an administration that has consistently championed the fight against the sales and consumption of illicit drugs, it behoves me to take this step, painful as it may be,” Namadi said.

He said that even though he believes he did nothing wrong, he cannot ignore how the public sees the situation and feels it’s important to protect the values they have all worked hard to build.

Namadi thanked Governor Yusuf for the opportunity to serve and said he would continue to support good leadership and do the right things.

“I must, as a good citizen, strive to protect, preserve, and uphold the trust and vision we have worked so hard to instill in our dear state,” he said.

Governor Yusuf has accepted the resignation and wishes the former commissioner well in his future endeavours.

He also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to justice, discipline, and the fight against drug abuse and other vices affecting the youth and society.

The governor further advised all political appointees to seek proper clearance before getting involved in sensitive public matters
