- Abejide believed Tinubu could win more than 32 states if Jonathan contests the 2027 presidential election.
- The lawmaker said Tinubu might only lose in Anambra and Abia States but secure victory in Ebonyi.
The chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise, Leke Abejide, says President Bola Tinubu will win if former president Goodluck Jonathan contests the 2027 election.
Abejide predicted that Tinubu would secure victory in more than 32 states should Jonathan accept to run for the nation’s top office.
The lawmaker, who represents Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency in Kogi State, spoke during an interview on the Mic On podcast with journalist Seun Okinbaloye on Saturday.
Speculations have been circulating in political circles about a possible Jonathan comeback bid for the presidency in 2027.
Jonathan served one term before losing to the late former president Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 general election.
Warning against Jonathan’s return to the race, Abejide suggested that Tinubu might lose in Anambra and Abia States but could clinch victory in Ebonyi.
“My prayer is that they should run like that (different political platforms) and Asiwaju will win 32 states,” the ADC chieftain said.
“He may lose maybe Anambra, Abia, he will win Ebonyi; he may win more than 32 states,” he added.
Speaking on Tinubu’s popularity, Abejide narrated his recent travels across parts of the north.
“I just came from Kano, I was in Kano on Wednesday and I slept there. I came to Kaduna by road yesterday morning,” he said.
“No insecurity, the road is very good, then I came by train to Abuja this morning and I can tell you that people are happy.”
