  • INEC pledged timely delivery of election materials to polling units to avoid delays in the Remo by-election process.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ogun has assured residents that Saturday’s Remo Federal Constituency by-election will be free, fair, and credible.

The Remo Federal Constituency is among 16 constituencies across 12 states where elections will hold on Saturday.

The by-elections will also be conducted in two senatorial districts in Anambra and Edo, alongside five federal constituencies in Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, and Oyo States.

Nine state constituencies in Adamawa, Anambra, Kaduna (two), Kano, Kogi, Niger, Taraba, and Zamfara will also hold elections.

The Remo Federal Constituency poll will fill the seat left vacant by the death of Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga, former deputy chief whip of the House of Representatives, who died on January 15 after a brief illness.

The Ogun resident electoral commissioner, Saseyi Feyijimi, said in Abeokuta on Friday that INEC had strengthened the capacity of its officials to handle the by-election professionally and without compromise.

“I urge the voters in Remo Federal Constituency to come out on Saturday, August 16, and vote the candidates of their conscience,” she said.

She disclosed that distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive election materials would begin shortly.

The commissioner assured that the materials would reach polling units on time to ensure a smooth exercise, adding that the process would be transparent.

“All election technology, such as the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), has been configured for the exercise,” she stated.

She commended political parties and candidates for complying with electoral campaign guidelines.

“Doing this will ensure safety and seamless election processes,” she added.
