- Her appointment as Senior Special Adviser on Special Duties to the federal lawmaker came 24 hours after she lost the bid to replace her husband.
Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial Zone, Tony Nwoye has appointed the candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Justina Azuka, as a legislative aide.
Her appointment as Senior Special Adviser on Special Duties to the federal lawmaker came 24 hours after she lost the bid to replace her husband.
Recall that her husband, Justice Azuka, before he was kidnapped and brutally murdered represented the Onitsha North 1 State Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly.
Mrs Azuka had contested Saturday’s by-election to replace her husband, but she lost to the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Mimih Ifeoma Azikiwe.
But after she lost the election, Senator Tony Nwoye quickly appointed her as a legislative aide.
In a photo circulating online, Senator Nwoye was seen handing her an appointment letter. The senator also confirmed the appointment to newsmen on Sunday.
She will be paid a basic salary of N200,000, and this has been applauded by many who believe that the appointment will ease the burden that comes with the loss of her husband, and also cater for her family.
One Peter Mmeagana, an indigene of Anambra State, who reacted to this, praised Nwoye for being so empathic.
He said: “What Tony Nwoye has done is the empathy which many politicians in Nigeria lack. The idea of fielding her to replace her husband was the best, but you see how vehemently opposition came after the poor widow. At least with what she has now, she can keep her family.”
