Comfort Emmanson, the lady at the centre of the recent airport furore involving Ibom Air, has broken her silence and shared her story.
Recall that Emmanson was accused of being unruly and assaulting the airline crew during a flight from Akwa Ibom to Lagos last Sunday. She was consequently arraigned before a Magistrate’s court and was remanded in prison.
She was later released on compassionate grounds after the case against her was dropped by the federal government.
Recounting what transpired in a post on her verified Instagram account, @soft_commy, the young lady disclosed that her well-publicised ordeal has left her traumatised as she was treated with scorn and indignity.
She accused one flight attendant, identified only as Julian Edwards, with whom she had an altercation, of yanking off her frontal wig, destroying her gold jewellery, and damaging her mobile phones.
Emmanson claimed that the standoff escalated after she questioned the crew member over the destruction of her personal belongings.
According to her, the air hostess insulted her and initially blocked her from disembarking from the aircraft.
The passenger lamented that the incident had negatively impacted her mental health, adding that the circulation of her private images on social media had worsened her discomfort.
“I want to first appreciate God Almighty and everyone who stood by me and fought for me when I was in prison. When I came out, the love and support I saw, I was not expecting it for a commoner like me. I say God bless you all.
“So, on August 10, I boarded a flight from Uyo to Lagos and the normal procedure was on. The lady Juliana was telling everyone to switch off their phones. When she came to me, I was struggling with my phone, and she said I should turn off my phone.
“I showed her that one of the phones was bad. The button was bad and she said I can turn it off without the power button. I had two phones and so the man sitting beside me helped me to turn off the other one.
“While she was talking, she said I should go to my settings and to general. I pleaded with her to take the phone off it but she refused,” she recounted.
