  • PDP State Chairman Jamil Jibo Mayaki accused APC of using federal might and military personnel to intimidate voters during Saturday’s by-election
  • Party claims heavily armed soldiers harassed electorate, chased PDP officials away, and denied access to polling stations and collation centers

The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has claimed that the recent by-election in Kaura Namoda South Constituency was marred by intimidation and violence, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of using “federal might” against voters.

In a press conference held on Sunday at the PDP state secretariat in Gusau, the party’s state chairman, Jamil Jibo Mayaki, accused the APC of disrupting the state’s by-elections.

He said, “We address you today with heavy hearts and deep concern over the unfortunate and shameful events that unfolded during the bye-election held yesterday, 16th August 2025, in Kaura Namoda South Constituency.

“What should have been a peaceful democratic exercise was tragically turned into a theatre of intimidation, violence, and outright electoral fraud—orchestrated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) with the active complicity of the Nigerian military.”

According to him, rather than to provide security and ensure a peaceful voting environment, heavily armed military personnel were deployed across polling units, not to protect voters, but to harass, intimidate, and brutalise the electorate.

“PDP officials and agents were chased away, beaten, and denied access to polling stations and collation centres.

“This raises a painful and ironic question: why is the same military, which is so quick to descend on innocent voters, unable or unwilling to protect our communities from daily bandit attacks? Federal might is being deployed not against terrorists and criminals, but against voters and democracy itself,” he said.

He maintained that the PDP condemns these acts of impunity, saying, “If this dangerous trend is allowed to continue, it will completely undermine the foundation of democracy in Zamfara State and in Nigeria at large.”

Magayaki disclosed that PDP remains strong, united, and resolute, adding that, “Justice will prevail, and democracy will triumph over tyranny.”
