  • Within seven hours, 69,376 Nigerians completed online pre-registration for the CVR, with young people (18-34) making up 69.2 percent of registrants

  • In-person registration begins August 25 at 811 offices, with weekly updates to track CVR progress, encouraging eligible voters to register promptly

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 69,376 Nigerians successfully completed their online pre-registration for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise within just seven hours of commencement on Monday.

In a statement, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, said the registration portal, which went live at 8:30 a.m., had attracted massive interest by 3:30 p.m.

“Of this figure, 33,803 (48.7 per cent) are male, while 35,573 (51.3 per cent) are female. In terms of age, 48,033 (69.2 per cent) are young persons aged 18–34,” he noted.

Olumekun explained that the online portal would remain accessible 24/7, urging eligible Nigerians who are yet to register to take advantage of the opportunity.

He further revealed that in-person registration would commence on Monday, 25 August 2025, at INEC’s 811 state and local government offices nationwide, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on weekdays. This, he said, would cater to those who prefer physical registration and also enable online applicants to complete their process.

INEC also announced that weekly updates on the CVR exercise would be provided from next week, with detailed breakdowns by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability.

The commission reminded Nigerians that registration is open only to citizens aged 18 and above who have not previously registered, while transfers and replacement of lost or damaged voter cards are permitted. It also warned that double or multiple registration is illegal and punishable under the law.
