- He said the federal government backed Emir enjoys preferential treatment, noting that the federal government has no say in the enthronement of an Emir.
A chieftain of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Buba Galadima, has said the former presidential candidate of his party will not join the government of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
He said the federal government’s involvement in the perennial emirate tussle in Kano, which undermines the authority of the state government, is the reason Kwankwaso will defect to the APC.
Galadima accused the federal government of appointing two emirs in Kano, noting a federal government emir and a state emir.
He said the federal government backed Emir enjoys preferential treatment, noting that the federal government has no say in the enthronement of an Emir.
The NNPP chieftain stated this on Monday while fielding questions on Channels TV’s Politics Today programme.
He said: “Why can’t we Nigerians look at issues dispassionately? How can Kwankwaso be a friend of the APC with what they are doing to us in Kano?
“They appointed two emirs in one town. There is a federal government emir, and there is a state emir. Who has the responsibility to appoint the emir and pay them their salary?
“The federal government have their emir. They have at least 40 pickup trucks filled with mobile police guarding their own emir.
“It’s a federal government appointee because it’s the Federal High Court that has ruled halfway to suggest so. I’m not making an accusation. I’m making a statement.”
