Security operatives in Anambra State have arrested one Mr. Mu Hua Qiang, a Chinese national, for alleged involvement in illegal mining activities.

The 45-year-old suspect was apprehended on Friday by operatives of the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest, stating that Qiang, a resident of Aguleri, was arrested during a surveillance operation in the Aguleri area.

He disclosed that the suspect was handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for further investigation.

“The Anambra State Police Command, through its operatives attached to the SCID, Awka, on the evening of 22nd August 2025, received a suspected illegal Chinese miner from operatives of the OCHA Brigade.

“His statement has been voluntarily obtained, and he has been placed in lawful custody for further investigation,” Ikenga said.

He assured that further developments on the case would be communicated in due course.

Illegal mining has remained a growing concern in Anambra State, with authorities intensifying efforts to clamp down on unregulated activities that pose both environmental and security threats
