  • Counterfeit Cowbell sachets bear unauthorised NAFDAC number and packaging design, misleading unsuspecting consumers across Nigerian markets.
  • The agency warned that ingestion of adulterated products can trigger allergic reactions, serious organ damage, and even sudden death.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning to Nigerians about counterfeit Cowbell ‘Our Milk’ sachets currently circulating in the market.

The agency explained that Promasidor Nigeria Ltd, the official licence holder for Cowbell products, had stopped producing the “Our Milk” variant in September 2023.

NAFDAC said the discontinued product had since been replaced with Cowbell “Our Creamy Goodness,” but counterfeiters were now circulating fake sachets mimicking the old packaging.

According to the agency, the counterfeit sachets carry the Cowbell brand name, NAFDAC registration number, and packaging design, but are neither produced nor distributed by Promasidor.

The agency cautioned that consumption of such counterfeit milk poses severe health hazards, including foodborne diseases, allergic reactions, organ damage, and in extreme cases, death.

It further warned that vulnerable groups such as infants, children, pregnant women, and the elderly were at greater risk of harm.

“Consumption of counterfeit milk poses serious health hazards, including exposure to toxic chemicals, unapproved additives, and diluted ingredients,” the agency stressed.

It added that the public should exercise caution when purchasing dairy products and immediately report suspicious items to the nearest NAFDAC office.
