The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has hailed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for dismantling a cybercrime syndicate operating in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by its director of communication and media, Bala Musa, the agency said the move underscores Nigeria’s zero tolerance for criminality, irrespective of nationality.
Earlier this week, the anti-graft commission confirmed the deportation of 51 foreigners convicted for cyberterrorism and internet fraud.
The deported criminals included 50 Chinese nationals and one Tunisian, raising the total number of foreign deportees to 102 since August 15.
The director-general of the NOA, Lanre Issa-Onilu, described the exercise as proof of Nigeria’s resolve to uphold ethical standards and defend its global reputation.
He maintained that the country would not serve as a safe haven or dumping ground for cybercriminals.
Issa-Onilu emphasised that enforcement agencies remain alert and committed to ensuring perpetrators of online crimes are held accountable.
He urged both Nigerians and foreigners living in the country to obey local laws and avoid actions that threaten national security.
“Nigeria will not be a haven or dumping ground for criminal enterprises,” Issa-Onilu declared.
“The message is clear: cyber criminals, whether foreign nationals or citizens, must realise that our enforcement agencies are vigilant, equipped, and resolute in bringing perpetrators to justice,” he said.
He added that the EFCC’s effort reflects Nigeria’s duty as a sovereign nation to safeguard integrity, uphold the rule of law and maintain its standing in the international community.
The NOA boss further appealed to community leaders, traditional rulers, schools, civil society organisations and the media to help strengthen ethical values across society.
According to him, the collective responsibility of institutions and citizens is vital for building patriotism, discipline and civic responsibility.
He stressed that the EFCC’s operation demonstrates the importance of accountability and respect for the rule of law in nation-building.
