The immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, has passed away at the age of 70, according to reports.
Obiano reportedly died while hospitalised in a London hospital where he was being treated for an undisclosed illness.
His demise was reported by Sahara Reporters, even though there is no official confirmation yet as of the time of filing this report.
Obiano was Anambra governor from 2014 to 2022, succeeding Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party. Obiano was succeeded by Charles Soludo, who secured a second term in office after winning last Saturday’s gubernatorial election in the southeast state.
Born on August 8, 1955, Obiano hailed from Aguleri in the Anambra East Local Government Area.
Before his death, he was on the radar of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which is investigating an alleged N4 billion fraud.
