One of the highlights of the tournaments is that the top and big footballing nations on the continent have not given room to complacency, they have not underrated any team and have been ruthless, making it exceedingly difficult for the smaller teams to cause any upsets that would inspire an underdog fairytale story

This year’s African Cup of Nations in Morocco has been fascinating and mesmerising. The tournament has lived up to its hype and expectation, not just in terms of the organisation of the competition and the world-class infrastructure built to host it, but also in the splendid performance of the teams and the quality of football on display.

One of the highlights of the tournaments is that the top and big footballing nations on the continent have not given room to complacency, they have not underrated any team and have been ruthless, making it exceedingly difficult for the smaller teams to cause any upsets that would inspire an underdog fairytale story.

Nigeria has been one of the standout teams in the competition. The performance of the Super Eagles has been impressive and fascinating. They are not only winning matches, but they are also doing so convincingly and with aplomb, taking teams to the cleaners with fluid, beautiful and scintillating football that brings back memories of the all-conquering Super Eagles of yore in the 90s. While the eye-catching and brilliant displays of the players on the pitch, which have earned them a place in the last eight of the tournament, have brought smiles to the faces of forlorn, much-tried, and long-suffering citizens at home.

An excellent and breathtaking display against Algeria in the quarter-final saw the Super Eagles book a place in the quarter-final. The fixtures, time and venue of the highly anticipated, high-stakes clashes of the last four of the tournament have been confirmed.

Host nation Morocco defeated Cameroon two-nil and Senegal edged out Mali by a lone goal to seal their places in the last four. Nigeria sailed into the last four with relative ease after a commanding display and enthralling performance that saw them defeat Algeria by two-nil. Egypt earned their spot by edging out defending champions Ivory Coast in the final quarter-final.

The first semi-final will see Senegal take on record seven-time champions, Egypt, on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Grand Stade de Tanger in Tangier. The second semi-final will see the high-flying Super Eagles of Nigeria face host nation Morocco, who will have the advantage of immense home support, the same day, at 9:00 p.m. at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Both semi-final winners will advance to the final, while the losing teams will contest the third-place playoff.
