Buhari confers GCON National award on ex-CJN, Tanko

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday conferred on the immediate past Chief Justices of Nigeria, CJN, Ibrahim Tanko the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger, GCON, which is second to the highest honour in the country.

The conferment took place at the sweaing-in of the Acting CCJ, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

President Buhari showered encomium at Tanko, who was said to have resigned as the nation’s CJN on health ground.

The brief ceremony was witnessed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami and some Justices the of Supreme Court.

WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that Justice Olukayode Ariwoola of the Supreme Court on Monday took the judicial oath of office as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

President Muhammadu Buhari administered the oath of office to Justice Ariwoola during a swearing-in ceremony held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa.

Ariwoola is expected to serve in an acting capacity till further confirmation by the National Judicial Council (NJC).

While taking the judicial oath, he swore to be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Government of Nigeria, as well as defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
