The Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo the capital of Taraba State has finally laid to rest, the suit seeking disqualification of the state governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kefas Agbu.
Agbu, it would be recalled was dragged before the federal high court in Jalingo by Jerome Nyameh and Helkiyah Bubajoda Mafindi, seeking his disqualification on the grounds that he was not qualified to participate in the party’s governorship primary.
They are also seeking the removal of Agbu as the flag bearer of the party for allegedly not purchasing the expression of interest and nomination forms.
Nyameh and Mafindi also held that the candidate was the state chairman of the party, who according to them presided over the screening of aspirants that jostled for various tickets in the party primaries.
However, Justice Simeone Akpa Amobeda dismissed the suit by the aggrieved aspirants for lack of merit.
Counsels to Agbu, PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), lauded the judge for dispensing justice in the right direction.
Counsel, Musa Tende said the court made an exposition analysis of the governorship primary election in Taraba State.”
He said rather than trying to distract the party from concentrating and preparing for the forthcoming general elections, aspirants must join forces with Agbu to ensure the party emerges victorious in the polls.
Speaking through his Counsel, Pius D. Pius, the plaintiff vowed to appeal the judgement.
He said, “It is a journey that starts here, there are two more rivers to cross, so we are going on appeal.”
Meanwhile, the state acting chairman of the PDP, Inuwa Bakari, said the judgment was dispensed accordingly, hence the need for the aggrieved aspirants to lay down their arms for the interest of the party.
