One Hussain Kamilu has been arrested for alleged rape of a minor.
The accused who hails from Ado village, Bani, Kaiama LGA of Kwara state was arrested by The Kaiama Division of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC.
Hussain was arrested on the April 2, 2023, for the alleged rape of Mariam Suleiman, 15, at Adogo village, in Kaiama LGA.
Spokesman of the command, Ayeni Olasunkanmi, disclosed in Ilorin on Tuesday that the suspect was alleged to have taken the victim on a bike to an unknown place where he sexually molested her and threatened her never to tell anyone.
However, Mariam eventually gained the courage to report the case at the NSCDC Kaiama Division on April 1, 2023.
“She reported that she had been psychologically affected by the alleged action of the suspect. Thereafter, the suspect was arrested on the 2nd of April and after investigation, he confessed to the offences,” the spokesman added.
He said the suspect was later taken to court on April 3 for prosecution before Magistrate Abubakar Ahmed Boro at the Magistrate Court, Kaiama, where he was summarily tried and sentenced to one year imprisonment for criminal trespass with an option of fine and one year imprisonment for intimidation, also with an option of fine.
He was, however, jailed one and a half years on the third charge of forced sexual assault without option of fine and would serve the sentence at the New Bussa Correctional Service, Niger State.
