  • President Tinubu has yet to return to Nigeria after attending the World Economic Forum’s meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
  • Speculations arose about his whereabouts, with two sources revealing he traveled from Riyadh to London for a private visit

It has been six days since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu attended the World Economic Forum’s Special Meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth, and Energy for Development in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and he has yet to return to Nigeria. The forum, which spanned two days from Sunday, April 28th to Monday, April 29th, 2024, aimed to facilitate discussions among public and private sector leaders to address shared global challenges.

The Presidency has not issued a statement regarding the delay in the President’s return to Nigeria. Some quarters have speculated that the President may have travelled to Paris, France, where he has previously undergone medical treatments. However, two credible sources, speaking independently to Daily Trust, disclosed that the President travelled from Riyadh to London.

One of the sources, a high-ranking official at the Presidency, confirmed that the President is currently in London for a private visit. The official, who preferred anonymity, declined to provide further details regarding the purpose of the President’s trip to London.

Another top official at the Presidential Villa said there is no cause for alarm concerning the President’s whereabouts. Although this official did not disclose the President’s location, they assured that he would return to the country “this weekend.”

President Tinubu’s recent official visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which commenced on April 23rd, was on the invitation of Prime Minister Mark Rutte. During the visit, Tinubu engaged in high-level discussions with the Prime Minister and held separate meetings with His Royal Majesty, King Willem-Alexander, and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.

Additionally, the President participated in the Nigerian-Dutch Business and Investment Forum to foster collaboration and partnerships, particularly in agriculture and water management, for sustainable farming practices. Following his visit to the Netherlands, Tinubu attended the special WEF meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which focused on bridging the North-South divide and addressing emerging economic policies, the energy transition, and geopolitical shocks.
