  • Prof. Pat Utomi reaffirms commitment to forming mega political party ahead of 2027 elections, aiming to disrupt current political landscape
  • Utomi criticizes existing political parties, outlines vision for new party rooted in transformative leadership and values of integrity and service

Renowned political economist Prof. Pat Utomi has reaffirmed his commitment to forming a mega political party ahead of the 2027 general elections, stating that the initiative is well underway.

Returning to Nigeria from the U.S. on Wednesday, Utomi emphasized to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that neither the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) nor the existing opposition parties could lead the country to redemption.

Criticizing the failure of present political parties to contribute meaningfully to nation-building, Utomi outlined the vision behind the planned mega party: to disrupt the current political landscape and provide the transformative leadership Nigeria desperately needs.

Expressing his disillusionment with the current state of Nigerian politics, Utomi stressed the necessity of a new political order rooted in values such as integrity, respect for the dignity of individuals, and a commitment to the common good.

Highlighting the importance of citizen engagement and ethical leadership, Utomi emphasized the need for Nigerians to shift from a self-centred mindset to one focused on collective progress and service to others.

To advance the formation of the mega party, Utomi announced plans for meetings in Lagos and Abuja, culminating in a forthcoming news conference. He aims to bring together two cohorts of politicians: those acknowledging past failures and seeking redemption (“mea culpa” cohort) and those championing new values and perspectives (“new value” cohort).

Utomi revealed ongoing discussions with opposition party leaders and key political figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, to unite diverse political forces under a common platform.

As preparations intensify, Utomi remains optimistic about the potential for meaningful change, underscoring the urgency of reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape to foster genuine progress and development.
