Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has labelled the planned nationwide protests on August 1, 2024, as political manoeuvres aimed at gaining popularity.

Addressing journalists after inspecting the long-delayed Apo-Karshi Road project, Wike urged patience, noting the administration’s efforts to address the country’s problems within its first year in office.

Wike pointed out that the country’s issues predated the current government and argued that the protests, promoted with hashtags like #TinubuMustGo and #Revolution2024, were driven by political interests rather than genuine grievances.

Acknowledging the widespread economic hardships, Wike stressed the need for time to rectify the situation.
