The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reiterated its commitment to enhancing surveillance and enforcement measures to curb the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the country.

This was emphasized by the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, during a meeting with the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) delegation, led by its National Coordinator, DIG Babatunde Kokumo (rtd), at the NCS Headquarters in Abuja.

CGC Adeniyi praised the appointment of DIG Kokumo by President Bola Tinubu, describing it as “placing a round peg in a round hole.” He expressed readiness to strengthen the existing alliance with NCCSALW to promote public safety and security through advocacy and effective public awareness.

Adeniyi highlighted recent successes in intercepting arms and military wares at various ports, including Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, and Tincan Ports. He stressed the importance of collaboration and the need to enhance investigations to prevent smuggling activities.
